From Research to App Competition - (6th Annual 2017 & 2018)

What is it about?
A mobile app competition for researchers and scholars at Oklahoma State University.

Who can submit an app Idea?
Faculty members, research groups, student researchers, post-docs, graduate students from all colleges across campus. You must be a current employee or a student at OSU.

What kind of app ideas are we looking for?
Mobile app ideas that solve a significant problem for the general public or for fellow researchers or for anybody at all.  We are looking for a diverse range of ideas from all scientific disciplines, including agriculture, arts & sciences, business, education, engineering, health science, human science, veterinary science and social sciences.

The winning idea will use non-trivial scholarly and/or scientific knowledge to solve a significant problem for the user via a mobile app.

Does an app have to be fully developed in order to qualify for the competition?
No.  A well-thought-out feasible idea is sufficient.

Winners:
The top 10 app ideas will be selected based on the initial submissions and a winner and runner-up will be chosen at the pitch event.

Prize Money:
For Phase I, the winner will receive $2000, the runner-up will receive $1000, and the remaining of the top 10 app ideas will each receive $500.

What happens after?
The App Center will assist with the development and commercialization of the winning app idea through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and any proceeds will be distributed according to the OSU IP policy.  If there is a valid business opportunity for the winning app, the App Center and the Technology Development Center may support commercialization via the start-up route.

If your app idea does not win and you would still like to pursue it, App Center will be happy to connect you with app developers on campus to develop your app ideas.
